VK3NX

Australian Amateur Radio STation

13cm EME

The VK band is 2300-2302 MHz.

The agreed segment for EME in VK is 2301.9 - 2302. I typically operate around 2301.950 +/-

We also have a band at 2400-2450 MHz.

X-Band Capabilities

I can operate Simplex in the 2300-2302 segment and this is obviously the preferred and easiest method for successful QSO's

I can Rx in the 2304, 2320 and 2400 Band segments.

Unfortunately, in VK, the 2304 and 2320MHz segments have too much QRM for any successful CW QSO's nowadays.

Digital QSO's are still possible in these bands

Equipment on 13cm

- A homebrew transverter based on the DEMI board is used for 2300-2304 MHz.

- The LO is a homebrew design and is reflocked to a 10 MHz GPS derived signal using a "VE1ALQ" PLL.

- IF frequency is 144 MHz.

-The amplifier in use is a Spectrian amplifier running at a "cool" 120 W

- LNA is a 'WD5AGO" preamp with 26 dB of gain and a claimed Noise Figure of 0.55dB.

- Dish feed is a scaled version of the "RA3AQ" optimised septum feed. I have built it out of copper sheet (diam. 0.5mm)

Performance on 13cm

Sun Noise = 12.2 dB with SFU = 70

Moon Noise = 0.35 @ Apogee

CS / Gnd = 5.7dB
